Step 1: Creating Labels
a) At fist you should create a sprite named actions.
Then you need to insert labels (3 frames apart) starting at frame 10-15.
b) After that you should name the labels. Now you should place a ‘go to previous frame’ action directly behind each label and a ’stop’ action directly behind that.
Step 2: Creating The Slider
a) Now you need to group your next text or graphic as a sprite.
b) Now you should move the text, or graphic that will follow the curser to the default position.
This can even be out of the movie window. In this tutorial the animation is on the ‘X’ path (side to side). Once the ‘follower’ is in the rest spot, you should go to transform in the options panel and see the X value lets say 259. You should go back to you actions frame, click on the first label and after that you need to add the commands in step 3.
Step 3: Adding The Actions
a) Now you need to tell target ‘/follower’ — Then you should add the transform commands to the ‘ X ‘ section…
click on (-=) and add the number 259.
goto transform again. click on (*= and add 0.8) this controls the speed…
goto transform again and add (+=) and add the number 259 again…
b) After that you should repeat this process for each label representing each link.
After this is done, move the follower back to default position. Now you need to add the rollover actions to your buttons.
Link 1 - on rollover - tell target actions – go to label 1 - Not label 0.. Then you need to repeat this process with each link sending the follower to the right label.
On all of the links you should add this action - On roll out- you need to tell target actions – go to frame 0 - Play - the extra 10 frames will give the follower time to move smoothly and not try to jerk back to default position on each roll out. another alt. is to just not add a roll out action at all…

img04
Now you need to do the same to the bottom:
img05
Now you should go to the Paths window (Window > Paths) and right-click the Work Path, and you should choose Make Selection. You should now have a selection of our Path:
img06
Now you need to open up the Layer Styles by either double-clicking the layer or right-clicking it and choosing Blending Options. Now you need to choose a Drop Shadow, and after that reduce the Opacity to 45%, Distance to 3 and Size to 5.
img07
Now right-click this layer and Duplicate it. You need to adjust the Layer Style of this new layer – you should make the Drop Shadow Distance 1 and the Size also 1. Now you should choose the Move tool and after that you should hit the Left key twice, and the Up key once. Repeat this process for the number of pages you want. Here you can see 3 pages:
img08
Shift-click all the page layers you created to select them al (in the Layers window) and then right-click one of them and you should choose Duplicate Layers. Shift-click all the duplicate layers and then you should do Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal, then move them to the other side of the canvas. Also you need to modify the Layer styles - edit each one and uncheck the Use Global Light option under Drop Shadow, and after that change the angle from 120 to 60.

img091
Now you need to Ctrl-click the layer of the top page on the left, and Shift-Ctrl-click the layer of the top page on the right, and you have a selection like this:
img101
Now you need to create a new layer and after that you should move it to the top of all the other layers. On this layer, you should draw a 1px Gray line down the middle of the book. If you want to make it exact, you should choose the Move tool and use the toolbar alignment to align to center:

You should go Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur the line slightly (around 0.5px).
Next, you need to create another new layer beneath this one and still with the selection of the two top pages, after that you should get a large soft brush of gray and paint down the center:
img11
Now you can alter the opacity of either of these layers to get the right blend. Also you should consider adding a background. Enjoy the result!

Create Smokey Typography

Posted by Design Instructor | Posted in Flash | Posted on 15-01-2010

0

Step 1
At first you should open up a new document (600×250px) and after that you need to create a new layer called ‘black background’. Fill your entire canvas with black.
smoke1
Step 2
Now you can add some white text to the center of your canvas.
smoke2
Step 3
Now you should duplicate text layer. You need to select your original and after that rasterize it (layer>rasterize>layer). Then you should apply a motion blur to this layer by going to filter>blur>motion blur. Now you need to set your angle to 90 and your blur strength to 20. Finally you must reduce your layer’s opacity to 60%.

smoke3a

smoke3b
Step 4
Now you need to paste in an picture of some smoke. Its important to make sure that you find an pictture of smoke on a black background, and if there is any color to your smoke go to image>adjustments>desaturate. Then you should change layer’s blend mode to ‘exclusion’.
smoke41
Step 5
Now you need to select a large, soft eraser brush at a low opacity (around 10%) and after that erase the edges of smoke picture.
smoke5
Step 6
Now you should repeat the same technique with another smoke picture.
smoke6
Step 7
You need to add some more smoke and you should be sure to erase parts of each picture until things are looking good.
smoke7
Step 8
Now you need to paste in another smoke picture, and you should set your layer blend mode to ‘multiply’. Then you should go to image>adjustments>levels and after that you shoud set your input levels to 0, 1.00, 100.
smoke8
Step 9
This layer now hides some of your previous smoke layers. To fix this grab a soft eraser brush and erase around your letters, exposing the rest of your smoke.
smoke9

Step 10
Once you have done this grab your smudge tool, and after that set your brush size to 40px and your strength to 60%. You want to start smudging the tops of the letters of your top text layer. Don’t simply smudge upwards, but you need to make small circular smudging motions.
Also you should reduce this text layers opacity to 75%.
smoke10
Step 11
Now you need to select your paintbrush tool and after that you should apply the settings shown below in your brush palette.
smoke11a
smoke11b
smoke11c
Step 12
Now you need to paint over text on a new top layer. If you want to make your scattered brush marks more obvious you should duplicate your layer and after that you need to merge it down with the original. Then you should apply an outer glow blending option to your layer (settings below).
